After looking at the initial document containing the x's and o's, I felt there were too many on the page and that they were too small for my third graders to handle. I took the document and cut it down from 52 to 20 x's and o's, I then blew it up on the copy machine to fill an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of copy paper. After explaining the activity to the students and demonstrating what I did not want them to do, make the same thing over and over or to connect the dots, I did one example from each page. I used the same example for each of the three classes and told them not to use that example on their papers. I then gave half of the class the X paper and the other half of the class the O paper. I gave the class 12 minutes to complete the assignment. After the time was up we then completed the survey together, I read the questions and then explained the the possible answers, I asked the students to circle their responses.
Here is the link to the scale used for the survey.
I administered the pre-test to 64 students, I have 4 third grade classes, with one of the classes split up amongst the three others. This is the data compiled from the pre-tests given.
These are some of the photos taken from the pre-tests.
